How to report a bug in Simple Recorder and other JSystems apps
Short answer
Join the JSystems Discord server, go to #bug-reports, and press Report a bug. A short form asks what happened. A private ticket thread then opens where only you and our staff can see the conversation, and we answer you there.
The JSystems Discord server is now the official place to report a bug in Simple Recorder or any other JSystems app. Every report gets its own private ticket, so you can talk to us until the problem is clear. You can join from the Report a bug page.
How to report a bug
- Join the server and press Report a bug. The invite on the Report a bug page takes you to the #bug-reports channel. Press Report a bug on the pinned message.
- Fill in the form. It asks for a short title, what happened, the steps to make it happen again, and the app version. Only the title and what happened are required. You don't need to pick which app it is; we work that out from what you write.
- Talk to us in your ticket. A private thread opens right away. Only you and our staff can see it. We answer there, and you can add more details or screenshots.
The reply you get after sending the form has your reference, like JS-0042, and a link to your ticket.
What happens after you send it
Each report is labeled with the app it is about, the kind of problem (for example a crash, an audio problem, or an interface glitch), and how serious it looks. That helps us see the urgent ones quickly. Then a person from our team reads it and answers in your ticket.
When the problem is solved, staff close the ticket. You can still read it afterwards, but you can't write in it anymore.
Tips for a good report
- One bug per report. Two problems are easier to fix as two tickets.
- Say what you expected and what you saw instead. Copy any error text exactly.
- Give the steps. "Open the app, pick Window, press Record" helps us make it happen on our side.
- Show it. A short video of the bug often says more than a long description. Our post on recording a bug report video shows how to make one with Simple Recorder. You can attach it in your ticket.
- Leave out passwords and private information.
The rules in #bug-reports
The channel stays clean on purpose. Members can't post messages, react, or use bot commands there. The only thing to do is press Report a bug. Everything else happens in your own ticket.
Each person can send 2 reports a day. You need a Discord account and must be at least 13, as Discord requires.
Your data
We keep your Discord name and what you typed in the report so we can fix the problem. If you want a report removed, ask our staff in your ticket. Staff can delete a ticket, which removes the report, the thread, and every message in it.
